Car Lemon Law header image 2

Resolved Question: HEY! I have a problem…please help.?

Ok so I bought a car almost 2 months ago. I haven’t even driven yet. When my step-dad(I was in the passenger’s seat) test drove it, it ran, and it seemed like a nice car, so I took it. Anyway the day I went to pick it up, I started the car up, but it wouldn’t move. Since then, the car would start up, but if it was turned off, then we would have to wait for it to cool down before it could be started again. My step-dad said that it was a problem with the timing…so after waiting a few weeks to get it done we got the timing set accurately….but then, i was told that because the timing had been messed up for so long, that the timing actuator was shot and needed to be replaced. We got the timing actuator replaced, and then we tested the car..it turned and off the way it was supposed to…but then the timing belt snapped, so we replaced the timing belt. At that point I thought that would be all I needed….but my step-dad(he was the one working on the car) said that NOW there was a gear that needed to be replaced because it was snapped in half. So he found a new(technically used) gear at a junk yard. He said he had to take the timing belt off to put the gear in. When he put everything back together..the car won’t start up anymore.

Honestly it seems to me that he must have done something wrong, seeing as how it was turning on and off before he replaced the gear…but now after he replaces it, it won’t start up anymore, but I don’t know.

Please don’t tell me to take the car back…or about the lemon law…because basically it’s a very long story, but the bottom line is, taking the car back is not really an option.

–I just would really like to know what the problem could be with the car, and if there’s a way to fix it, any advice would be helpful.

**Also the car is a 1995 Monte Carlo
